Coupe CAF: l'ASEC passe!

Abidjan - Robert Champroux - samedi 2 mars 2013

Elephants, from love to hatred!

“This was their last chance and they missed it, it’s enough!” That’s exactly what most of Ivoirians in say about the defeat of their national football team, Sunday in front of a young determined team of Nigeria. Funs are very angry and they say it even in to the press, blaming the sometime but above all, the players for their lack of fighting spirit. The Ivory Coast National ended the in this African Cup of Nations in quarter final exactly like they did it in 2010 in Angola. But this time, was obviously the last chance of many players to win the continental trophy that they hugely desire since 1992. For Ivoirian, this is a shame for all the country with that wonderfull generation of player. Now, things may change. The emblematic Captain, Didier Drogba and is now 34 years old and may no longer be part of the crew as he said to the French TV, just after the 2-1 victory of Nigeria. The former Chelsea star shouldn’t be alone to leave the Elephants’ squad after this AFCON. The 32-years-old defender Kolo Toure, another English Premier League icon, from Manchester City may stop here. Just like Zokora Didier, Emmanuel Eboue, Boka Arthur, Tiene Siaka…considered like the vanishing big five of the Elephants of Ivory Coast. Then people could see, very soon a new team of Ivory Coast made of young player like Gervinho, Lancina Traore, Sol Bamba, Tiote Cheik, Max Gradel…and may be the Manchester City’s 30-years-old midfielder Yaya Toure.
